Ok so i just got a new saltwater tank....everything is goin good...mostly. So i get some live rock to put in my tank and the guys says to watch out for this stuff that looks cool. well sure enough i got it and i need to get rid of it. Its brown and looks like a coral or anemone but he said it takes over ur tank and multiplys exponentially. I was wondering about the name of it and how to get rid of it. ANY IDEAS?

If you could, email me at [email protected]

they are called aiptasia if they are whet i think you mean, they look like this:
Aiptasia_sp2.jpg

you will need bottled concentrated lemon juice from a supermarket, and a hypodermic syringe with a needle on from a pharmacy (0.5x16mm)

you need to inject the base of each aiptasia with about 0.5ml of lemon juice (shake it before use). dont put your needle all the way through...

if you have a lot present in your tank, do a few at a time to prevent the ph being altered by the lemon juice you are using.

hope that helps:)

another good method of removing aptasia is using peppermint shrimp if possablre if they are small (the aptasia, not the shrimp).

another product if joes juice which also gets rid of them.

or

you can just use a highly concerntrated solution of kalk (calcium hydroxide)

ste :)
