I work at WalMart, and mine has just started selling Bettas!! I am not too happy about this in the least! They have little 'care cards' next to where they are set up, and they suggest a large bowl. It states nothing about a heater, or filtration. I sent my Store Manager an e-mail on the work computer, letting know how strongly I feel about this, and asking if I could ((on my own)) print out pages to put near them about proper care for Bettas. And the misconceptions about small bowls, and so-on. What I am asking you for, the best sites that I could put on the flyers I make for them. There are a lot of websites that go along with the small bowl/Betta in a vase ideas, and I want to bring people away from that!

i think thats a great idea! has your boss cleared you to do it? he should, 5 gallon min for a betta right? that = more bucks for your boss as people would have to purchase a bigger tank!

i dont know of any betta sites as ive never kept them but what you are doing will help alot of betta's have a better chance of survival :)

I have seen them kept in plastic cups at lfs , do you think this is to make punters feel sorry for them and "rescue" them ?
Think what you are doing id admirable , be good if your boss is cool with it but beuraucracy will usually win in these places unfortunatly
apologise for all the spelling(or lack of)
keep up the good work :good:

I didn't think about the 'rescue' aspect of it. But knowing the people that live around here, I'll be amazed if I reach anyone with the information anyways!!!

And I don't know yet if he approved me to do it..... but I'll find out today!!

That's a link to our caresheet, but I generally find that it is best to look up a whole bunch of caresheets then paraphrase them because each one has it's good and bad advice.

Here's a cleaning schedule by tank size:

1 gallon -- 100% water change every 3 days
2.5 gallon -- every 4 to 5 days
5 gallon -- once per week

And I also thing it would be an awesome idea for you to save a few scraps of old filter media in the filters for newbies to cycle their tanks with--- providing store tanks are clean enough!

Keep up the good work!

YAY, I got the go ahead to make up flyers with care information on for customers to take home, and read about PROPERLY CARING FOR A BETTA!! I am so excited he is letting me do that!! Though little does he know I am going to get colorful paper, and print out the copies at work!! I'll buy the paper, but my little printer calls for expensive ink!! I don't go in till 4pm, so I will be putting it together tomorrow morning!! I really hope I am able to open the eyes of some people around here and I hope the little guys get the homes they deserve!

I was talking to one of the C0-Managers today, and he was telling me the store has 150 of them. And we can't send them back to where ever they came from. We either sell 'em, or they die there. What can I do!? I wish I could just take them all home!!

I wonder if I could find a cool betta flyer template online!!

Well done you, I think it would be really helpfull for care sheets were more readly available at all LFS. The most I have been in just have marker pen on the side of the tank with the common fish name and price. Once again :flowers:

Wohoo! I know a lot of people who would be really relieved to see a walmart employee advocating proper care fo bettas!
