I'm thinking of getting a plec, but I wanted something that wouldn't grow to big for a 33 g tank. I come across with a gold nugget/mango pleco today in my LFS and I was told that these guys are small and only grows up to 6", but I did some research and most says that they grow up to 12" Can anyone suggest any kinds of plec that won't go too big as a common one?

There are quite a few, so it really depends on how much money you are willing to spend. Golden Nuggets and Magno Plecs can reach 8 inches or more so I wouldn't get these. Instead you could try Clown Plecs, Flash Plecs, Zebra Plecs, King Tiger Plecs, Zebra Chocolate Plec and Leopard Plec, these are all relativly small Plecs. Tell me what you think, if you like any we can help you in more detail.

I thought that there was a type of gold nugget plec that stays smaller that 8" as I considered getting one. Butterfly plecs (L052) are also pretty cool IMO. Leopard frog plecs (L134) are also brilliant but are a fair bit smaller than what's been mentioned.

HTH :)

There is some uncertainty over the maximum sizes of these fish, there are three spot varities ranging from L18 the smallest spot to L177 the largest spot. Specimens have been seen around 12 inches, but most are smaller, so for your size tank CS I would say it is fine. They are also very slow growers to.

Good Luck :)
