I got up this morning to find a dead silvertip it had been eaten all its inarss had gonre fins ect to.The other day i found its tank mate on its side with what looked like a red bite on its side all other fish apart from 2 frogs i got recently have been with it for 7mnths + any clues to who the guilty party is ?? got my gf to check forgs feet and are definatley WEBBED.But the frog this morning did look rather larger than normal will the more peacefull frogs eat fish if no other food is available ??.On a lighter note i have noticed a earthy odour comming from my tank any good natural ways to combat this thanks in advance..

Looking at your tank info, i have no idea -_- . Maybe the barbs as i know alot of barbs can be aggressive if kept only in small groups, but i've never had those barbs so i dont know and you mentioned they have been happy for around seven months now....
How big is your tank? I've seen burns on some fish at a crappy lps due to the tank being over stocked that look like bites, but you say you have a large silver shark so i imagine your tank would be big enough :/ .

Do you know what type of shrimp they are? I've seen a few aggressive shrimp labeled 'freshwater shrimp' at the lfs, that could definitely harm the small fish.

Also silver sharks are shoaling fish, so maybe your one turns aggressive occasionally because he's on his own? I dont know though, ive never had any of them and im not an expert :) .

Details on tank volume, you should test the water and finding out about those shrimp may help :) .

Hi The_Eggman_1972 :)

When you looked at your frogs, did you look at their front "hands," or their back "feet?' This is important because both the little African Dwarf Frogs and the much bigger African Clawed Frogs have webbed back feet. If their "fingers" are long and pointy and there is no webbing between them, they are the big ACFs. Are they brown or albino? If you post a picture, I'll try to identify them for you for sure.

To diagnose what killed your fish, I would need more information such as the size of your tank, number and kinds of fish and frogs, test readings for ammonia, nitrate and nitrite, and the frequency and size of your water changes. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that your frogs killed the fish until I knew better, but they will eat dead fish as will other fish and snails.

It's possible that your fish are dying from a bacterial infection. One symptom of this is the red stomach or red streaks in its fins. This is often due to poor water quality.

If you have young African Clawed Frogs, they could be the cause of the smell, because they are heavy waste producers. Kept by themselves, they do tend to have a distinct smell which gets worse if their tank isn't cleaned frequently. Nevertheless, they can be good pets if their needs are met.

If they are not ACFs, you have a serious problem in your tank and if you post more information, perhaps I, or one of the other members, can help you figure out what is wrong.
