Hi i have 2 corys (1m 1f) and they have spawned five times since i got them. They spawned these 5 times in 1 week and haven't spawned for about a week now. I have noticed that my female appears to be very fat even though she eats alot less than the male.

The syptoms are.
Bloating.
Hiding all the time.
Not spawning.
Staying away from other fish.

She does not have any parasites and her poo is normal colour, she has no scales sticking out, her anus is not red or inflamed nor are her gills.
She doesn't even interact with the other fish anymore. She hides all the time which she never used to do. She appears in good health except all these syptoms (meaning no parasites or anything protruding from her anus) She has normal colour. The male has a pinkish tone to his belly and will approach her slowly but not to spawn just to sit next to her but when he goes near her she will freeze up then dart away.
Can corys handle salt baths? Because if this will help then i will try anything to save her but i can't seperate her.

corys are very semsitive to salt so i wouldnt bathe her in it unless it was a real weak solution then hardly worth it, is it....?

maybe you need a few more corys to make her feel more secure as they really should be in larger groups of 5 plus.

what else is in the tank?

what else is in the tank? 4 guppies.

I have had her for about 2 weeks but about 2-3 days ago i realized something was wrong because she suddenly started hidding. Her belly is pure white, it quite literaly looks like she has swallowed a white stone about 1/2 1" long. Would it be worth me trying to get her to eat some de-shelled peas? She usually just leaves them so the male scoffs them down. I might point out that the last spawn they had, all the eggs turned white. I think he forgot to fertilize them because i caught them spawning and thought ok will leave them to do their thing and i will remove the eggs when i get back. I got back about 1-2 hours later and all the eggs were white and fluffy. I'm not buying anymore corys because i have some to put in the tank when they are abit older.

females do get bigger when full of eggs, are you sure its not this?

maybe a pic will help us to help you....

adding corys when they have grown doesnt help the corys in the tank now  they really need to be in bigger groups, the bigger the better. corys grow quite slow compared to other fish so depending on their size it may be a while before they are big enough.

try just feeding peas only so she has no choice but to eat some for a few days, if it is constapation then peas should sort it out.

I fed peas and she did eat some but not alot the ,male got most of them. I also fed some very mushy peas to the baby corys as they are big enough to eat some.

Shes still bloated and hasn't laid any eggs yet but she is venturing out more now so i think she may be getting better now.

try a water change, there is nothing better than a good bit of fresh water for your fish :good:

I do 50% W/C everyday but i think shes on the mend because this morning there was no eggs but my corys were actually showing signs of spawning some time today.

glad to hear :good:

50% water change a day may be a bit too much and cause the fish to stress with all the messing about in the tank everyday....

Well i do a 50% once a week and about 20-25% the other days.
They didn't spawn.

if the tank is cycled then there is no need to do as many water changes. obviously fresh water is a bonus and the fish will love it but it wont give the tank time to settle and may stress the fish for no reason, along with the stress of things being in the tank to remove water etc it could cause the fish to hide away. i would just do 1 x 50% a week thats plenty :good:

It is a cycled tank but i have to do gravel vacs everyday so the water gets moved out and has to be replaced. Even though i only have 6 fish in a 2ft tank, by 8am tommorow morning the poop from them fish builds up in the crevices of the rocks and it's really noticable because they poop alot.

are you feeding too much?

what fish are in the tank?

4 Guppies, 2 corys.
They get fed twice a day. The guppies get guppy gran or small flakes and the corys get half an algae wafer. The guppies get 2 flakes crushed between them or 8 granuels (2 each). Is this to much? The corys
get half a wafer between to days because they don't finish it all in 1 night.
