Can someone help me identify my new fish. I came home from work and my girlfriend had bought them (but she didnt ask what they were :S )

They are a brown speckled colour and have an odd shape, because they hardly have a tail. They remind me of puffer fish because the eyes are a little bulbous and move independantly.

Sorry this is a little vague and sorry for the poor picture, but it was taken with a camera phone and they are always hiding :/ )

Nope, dont think so. My GF said it had a latin name and she thinks it began with 'C' and that they are cichlids (I must stop her going to the fish store  )

Also these guys only have tiny mouths unlike the Leaf Fish

Yeah thats them, thanks aberdeen aquarist

(Dont know if I can post links here so I'll edit it)

Here's what they look like :D

Sorry guys aberdeen aquarist already identified them, they are Leopard Ctenopoma :)

Edit, sorry bunjiweb I think they are also known as Climbing Perch, dont know if they are brackish though :dunno:

Looks like a Ctenopoma acutirostre, see here . Certainly is one of the Ctenopoma genus. :)

Sorry I didnt realise it had already been mentioned, I dont know all the scientific names yet..

Cool fish but I suggest you find out more about it. You dont want a brackish fish living in a FW setup if it is indeed a brackish dweller.

Ben

They are a freshwater species coming from the Congo Basin and surronding areas in Africa. :)
