Yesterday Il ost a fish to dreaded dropsy. She had been a bit lethargic, and then quickly got that tell-tale pine cone look. She also had a darkening (almost yellow/brown) that appeared to be internal, not on top of scales, by one of her side fins.

Well, no other fish showed any syptoms, so I did a water change, added salt, turned up the temp a bit, and began Maraycyn, the antibiotic.

Bad news, just 24 hours later another female is SICK! Please help me figure out if this is a bacteria or maybe something fungal. I need to treat it accordingly before I loose any more pets!

The new patient has 3 very small whitish cottony tufts by her tail (at the base). If ick is like salt, this is more like cotton.

Can it still be bacterial? Does it sound more fungal? I need help, please!

Thank you for anything you can offer.

their tank:

not overstocked
amonia 0
nitrites 0

I changed my treatment, and you are probably right because everyone else in the tank is AOK. Thanks for writing back, I appreciate it, Claire

Hi guppy mama, I'd have to agree, sounds like the second fish has something fungal. Maybe these two things are not related. Any new fish in the tank?
