Hi all, my lfs has got a knife fish in their show tank i didnt get the chance to ask them what kind it was so i will ask & explain here

it had a greyish colour
had whiskers! i havent seen a knife fish with whiskers but they were small
looked to me to be like a glass knife fish
was about 15-20 cm

If it has whiskers, it's most likely a catfish. From the sounds of things, one of the large glass catfish. See, for example, Ompok and Schilbe spp. Mostly, these catfish are medium-sized, schooling predators.

yeah, it was like an ompok

they actually look like pangassius with an undulating fin!
