Help I don't know if my fish is female and pregnant

I had two Giant Danio's out of six develop swollen stomachs like that. When they ate it just looked even worse,larger and right out of Alien type movies. It was part of something infectious that went away..after the fish died. None survived treatment or even improved.
Off topic..but that shiny silvery look also was like they had.
