I just got a new external Eheim 2213, and I'm really struggling to prime it (the sucking way).

It's kinda running ok I think, but I can hear there some air trapped in there. I've tried gently rocking the filter, but after numerous attempts, it's still not quite right.

I also have an 2224, but that's no problem to prime as I just open on of the little "arms" and throw water down the pipe.

But I just struggle with this 2213

I used the double tab connectors to shut off water flow, after cleaning it, i release the tab connectors and let water flow into the cannister via venturi.

If you dont have connectors, it may pay to vac some clean water out and into the cannister before you place the lid on. :) I doi that sometimes too. It elimintaes some air bubbles.

After i switch it on it runs for about 2-3mins with bubbles coming out the spray bar, but after that it calms righ down.

Bloozoo it took me ages to prime mine...until dangerous dan told me to use a jug and fill it with tank water till water level was visable in the tube and 5 mins later it was all up and runnin otherwise i would have been trying to pump for hours lol

Thanks, I eventually did that - filled the canister with tank water and then sucked on the end of the spray bar pipe. I do have the connectors, so makes things a tad easier - but not much.
If you rock yours slightly, can you hear air trapped in it ?

How silent is your filter - I can hear mine when standing in the room - where as my 2224 is dead silent.

That's what I ended up doing - if you meant you filled the canister, but I can still hear some air in there :/
I'm just a bit concerned, because the instructions said *not* to fill the canister.

I have double connectors as well. To clean, I just close all the taps, remove the filter, sort it out then put it back connecting the inlet up and open the tap. The outlet, I do not connect, I open the tap part way. Now water is free to siphon from the still filled inlet pipe into the canister, filling it and the return pipe up to the tap - I close the tap at that point and reconnect the return tube. Open the return tap, turn the filter on and give it a few shakes to dislodge any trapped air.

Never had a problem getting a 221x Classic going.

Thanks everyone ! I will try and tweak it tonight :)
