Ok.. Am in desperate need of some advice from those members with Eheim Filters.

I have an old style 2217 Eheim filter that has been running a year now, still working fine but the flow rate is getting slower so I think it's time for a clean.

I thought about it and decided to unplug the filter and took the lid off to find water pouring out of the drum  . After many swear word and a lot of preasure I managed to get the lid back on and get it flowing again.

How do I go about cleaning the media, without draining my tank and flooding the lounge again

*Bump* Can anyone help?? Please.. Really could do with some advice/help with this!

TIA

Lawrence

im pretty sure he/she unplugged it before opening.

You need to close the inlet and outlet valves on both the filter and connecting tubes right after turning off the filter. if anything, there is going to be too much suction and you wont be able to pull the filter apart. Then, you slowly start to open the outlet valve on the filter. This will slowly break the suction and allow you to open the filter without spilling everything.
