Help! How can I help my Betta

He is still breathing but just lying here not moving

Is he on the floor of the tank? What are the results from your water test, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate. Is he alone or are there other fish, what’s he in, filter, heater. Any odd behaviour over the last few days? How long have you had him, how long has the tank been cycled?

Everything coming back normal, heater and filter in tank he is in 72 litres just some cardinal swordtail and mollys and Pleco and snail. Had tank and him since May

He is moving sometimes but mostly just either sitting on bottom or lying upside down in a plant he’s not bloated and no spines sticking out

If he is lying upside down, it is most likely swim balder disease. Swim bladder disease is sort of like cancer... some fish make it and others don’t. Does he still have his appetite? If so, try feeding him a cut up green pea.

Thanks for your help guys but he died while I was at work devastated! A couple of my cardinals died a couple days ago and was very similar symptoms?? Could this be a disease in the tank?

How often do you clean your tank and how much water do you change out? That fish looks like he has fin rot which is usually due to poor Water conditions. What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings exactly? I mean no disrespect, but from what I can tell in betta pic the tank looks very dirty. Glass and plants. The betta looks fine physically which leads me to believe he died from poor/toxic water conditions. We can help you fix this but need your readings. Do a 70% water change right now and get back to us with water test results. Be sure to dechlorinate the water.

What is the exact stocking in the tank? I also see a cory and a red tailed shark in the photo? It sounds like a very stocked 72 litre tank. We need the answers to DeanaSue's questions to stand a chance of being able to help you. The platy also looks far too long and thin, not a good sign.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark with Fish TB just because one of the symptoms is inactivity? Might also be ammonia poisoning or just toxic waters. idk

Are spines bent? They will be with fish TB. I doubt it is. Lots of things cause inactivity. Water quality is top on the list. Do large water change daily for a week along with adding aquarium salt (dissolved) for the fin rot. Salt dosage is 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of tank water the first day after water change. After that do 3/4 tablespoon dissolved aquarium salt after each 70% water change. We STILL need your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings please! We can’t help completely without this info.

Have you sprayed any sort of chemicals around the tank? Or in the same room? (Febreeze, Windex, etc.)

Thanks for your reply, I’ll have u know that I water change my water every week about 70% and my tank has just been cleaned the only algae on it is that in the pic and algae is actually good for fish! Plants are also plastic so are discoloured! I’ve checked nitrates and nitrites and ammonia and they are all fine as I said previously
