help fry tank cracked

Help please, my 10 gallon fry tank is cracked about half way down on the back. I had to empty out half the water, as it was dripping out everywhere. There is still a corner filter in there, but i have 2 pregnant guppys about ready to give birth in another tank and i have about 7 fry in thie tank now. How can i fix it and not kill the litle ones who are in there.

I'm not sure you will be able to fix it with any water still in it. You may have to transfer everything into a 5 gal pail, dry out the tank, silicone the crack, and wait until the silicone dries before putting everything back into the tank.
If the water is below the level of the crack you may be able to silicone a patch on the back as it is. If you have an old picture frame kicking around with a piece of glass in it you could use that as the patch. Coat the patch with a thin layer of silicone and clamp it over the crack. Let dry for a couple of days and refill with water.

Caution: Be sure not to let any silicone get into the water (I doubt this would be good for the fish) maybe tape the inside of the crack when applying the patch to stop any leak through. The patch idea may only be a temporary fix as the glass may continue to crack the rest of the way down. If possible try to find a piece of glass as big as the back of the tank to help reinforce it.

I would buy a new tank of the same size and transfer all of the contents (gravel, decor, filters, heater,water etc.) to the new tank.

Hello everyone, if i purchase a new tank and put all the stuff from this tank in there, how long will i have to circulate it before i can put my fry back in? Thank you for your replys.

it might be a bit late but if you can find some waterproof plastic sheeting you can put it in the fry tank to act as a skin nd then put the water in the skin it gets a bit crinkly near the edges so its important not to move it or risk damaging the fish.and you may not be able to find see thru but its the fry that are important and thats my idea to help find them somewhere fast if the shops are shut or you have no money.

edit : oh you got another tank well 24 hours should be enough considering you are probably in a hurry to get the tank ready.

just thought i'd reply to this one ,the same thing happened to me only i was only just through cycling. i had a new tank,cycle had been completed for 3or 4 weeks, i had quite a few fish by then. then i noticed a damo patch on the side table it was standing on,which got bigger and bigger.the silicone was leaking at the base. probably slowly since i had it, the upshot of all this is .. if you can get a replacement tank like i did ... transfer everthing water, filter ,gravel and fish. mine was a bit murky but my filter soon took care of it, i also had many baby platies and i managed to find most of them. all the fish i transferred lived .so good luck pebbles

Thank you all so much, i just got back from the local crazyMart with a new tank. The tank cilicone was 5 dollars and a new tank was only 8 so i got the new tank. I am going to let it cycle for 24 hours and then add the little guys to it, hopefully it will be ok. My husband says just what i need another tank I just hope i dont lose anyone in the transfer. I cant thank you all enough for your quick response, it is really nice to know that there are others out there that are willing to help. for the time being u could get some silcon glue and but it along the crack!

When my 55g sprung a leak ( the seals gave up) i done an emergency repair with duck tape. The stuff was so good i got lazy and left it for over a month!! But i did eventually repair it properly. Duck tape is good stuff for repairing and to a degree waterproof.
