I recently got a new betta (I've been keeping them for years) and he's been doing fine all weekend.

Now Im watching him, he swims in quick jerky movements for about 10 seconds, then he'll lay on the bottom resting for a few mins, then jerky swims again.

He did eat abit earlier, so I know he's eating.

I use bottled spring water for my bettas to ensure the water's clean.

Ok, what you are describing does sound like how bettas behave when they're fairing poorly. But to help, I need alot more info on how you keep your fish; all I see is "bowls" in your info.

- Do you have a heater in the bowl?
- If no, is your room warm enough to keep them at 76-80 degres?
- If yes, do you have a thermometer?
- If yes, what is it currently at?
- If no.... buy one, dangit.
- Do you have filtration in the bowl?
- If yes, how strong is the current?
- If no, how often do you do water changes?
- In regards to water changes, do you make sure the temp. is adequate first?
- What is your betta eating, and how much?
- Does he have any other signs of illness (paleness, labored breathing, flicking against rocks and decorations, white spots, cottony fluff, excessively red gills, etc)
- Since he's new, how did you integrate him into his water?
- The water is spring, not distilled, right??

-Heater- no. the room's very warm.
-Thermotomer- in one bowl at 76* (not the one with the fish)
-No filteration, water changes 2-4 times a week
-I leave the water out over night to get room temperature before doing water changes.
-He's eating pellets- HBH Betta bites (all of mine eats them)
-Only other signs is that he occasionally rubs against the marbles on the bottom.
-Spring water (Poland Spring to be exact)
- and I let both bowl and water in the bag sit for about an hour to ensure room temp, then I dumped about 3/4th of the bag water in the sink and the rest with the fish into the bowl.

thanks for reminding me, gotta update my siggy.

EDIT: Im getting one of those 2.5 nano tank set up thingys for this betta (Since its in my office at work). the other's been doing fine where they are for months-year. Hopefully it'll live long enough for me to go out and get this tank (tonight or tomorrow)
