I am moving from Nebraska to Colorado in 2 days and it is an 8 hour drive. I need to move my entire Saltwater set up which is a 22 gallon cube. I have 4 fish and no coral (Percula, Six Line, Royal Gramma, Firefish). I have an outlet adapter for my car, it has one outlet on it. I also have one styrofoam fish transporting box and 3 5gal buckets with lids on hand.
Here's what I am thinking.
On the morning of the move, I will put all of my LR into a 5 gallon bucket and fill that bucket with water so that the LR is completely submerged. I will fill the other 2 5 gallon buckets with remaining salt water from my tank. I can either fill the styrofoam box with saltwater and then put the fish in there or I can separate them among the buckets (obviously not with the LR). I will leave the sand substrate in the tank and carry it out to the car, followed by the water (buckets) and then the stand. I can buy some air tablets or I can run an air pump off of the outlet. I am thinking it makes more sense to run a heater or a powerhead off of the outlet in my car (the heater for the fish, or the powerhead for the LR). What do you all think?
When I get there, I should be able to put everything back together fairly quickly, the only catch is that we have to stay at a hotel until the next day. I am not allowed to move into my dorm until tuesday and we are arriving monday. This is perhaps the most tricky part of it. Am I better off ditching the fish (selling them) or trying this out...this is something that seems plausible if I work out any kinks... what kind of other equipment would I need? Maybe another 5 gallon bucket with fresh saltwater mixed for water changes? A chemical to get rid of ammonia?
I need ideas, and fast.
