Ack! I was doing my weekly water change and noticed that DeLaunce's rays seem to be getting thinner and thinner and actually found pieces that had broken off in the tank. What could be causing this? I Usually change his water every Sunday, and I use tap water with Stress Coat and add, Atison's Betta Spa. Also in the tank is a bit of Hornwort that floats at the surface.

Usually keeping bettas in sunlight for a while can improve fin issues. The sunlight gives them important vitamins that they could be lacking.

Does anyone else have any advice on this issue?!?!?! I have moved DeLaunce to the window so he'll get some sunlight. I hope this isn't too late!

I have added some melafix at 1/4 strength.

I've tried melafix and it didn't work well. . . here's what I got fr a reliable website:
" Do a full jar water change. If the rot is very slight or mild, you can use Maracyn I and Maracyn II (together at half the dose each) by Mardel. This medication comes in hard tablet which is a real pain. You'll have to crush them into a powder before you can administer to a betta in a bowl. A tablet treats 10 gal of water, so you do the math. Do not overmedicate! Change water every third day and add a new dose of same medication. Continue until fins/tail stop receding and start showing some new growth. It may take up to 4 weeks to work, so don’t give up. "

Ok here is what you want to do.

Don't put any chemicals.

Put some salt and dry Banana leaves and do 50% water change after 3 days. Continue using the Banana leaves then do 50% water change after 7 days. Then remove the leaves and do 50% water chaneg every week just like what you are doing BUT don't put anything than salt until you see the water is clear.

Sundlight ? yes it is indeed helpfull let him flare up in the morning under the Sun for not morethan 10 minutes (everyday). Then flare him up again in the evening.

Remember: Don't feed him with pellets. Try to look for live Bloodworms and/or Tubiflex. Frozen is still cool.

It's easy to deal with CTs so don't be alarmed ;)

Is Atison's Betta Spa considered a chemical? It is basically Indian Almond Leaf extract.

What do the dry banana leaves do? Will they change the color of the water? I'm not even sure if I can get those here. Maybe at a latino market or specialty grocery store?

Ditto what Sukie said.... except about the meds for now. Ph fluctuations/ water quality screw with their rays. Change the water more often and never treat with meds unless you are positive what you are treating for.

Attison's spa mix is an indian almond leaf tea with some vitamins added.

First things first..... clean the water and do much more frequent water changes. You can add Attison's stuff to the water.... or make your own tea. Sunlight does help with the rays... but heat and clean water are the most important thing right now.

Yes, Atison's Betta Spa is an IAL + vitamins. You may use it. Dry Banana leaves are the best alternative for dry IAL it softens the water and will help kill the parasite/unwanted bacterias in the water that will help your Betta to re grow his fins and will make them thicker and stronger. It will also may the scanles of your CT shinny.
