Hiya everyone,

Ok I’ve got a problem with one of my mollies; she seems to be lying on the bottom of the tank lifeless!

She is alive I know that for sure, I’ve noticed this for a few days now and today she has swollen to almost double her normal size and I fear the worst for her. I am also finding her all over the tank like this, it could be on a plant or washed up against somthing.

I’ve put up a gallery with loads of pics of my tank and so on, please this isn’t just me trying to get hits on my gallery, my molly is ell and I need advise ASAP please.

Here is the link to the gallery, sorry I used my cam on my mobile phone so the pics are not too good but you can Cleary see what’s up with her, I’ve had her a good 6 months now and she’s given birth to one set of babes and is due again now really.

As times gone on she’s got worse and right now I’m holding her upright in a net to try and keep her strait in her mind but she’s not looking good. I’ve looked at the Ph levels and all the things we do for our tanks to keep them just how they should be and I’m fairly confident the water condition isn’t the problem.

My other fish all seem good with no problems, I have lost 3-4 fish recently to swim bladder problems and I’ve got a feeling this could be what the problem is for our molly, the fact that she’s laying on the bottom and to me looks as though she is heavy has confused me as I’ve only ever seen swim bladder problems make a fish “floatâ€.

I’m upset that we may lose her and I fear we maybe out of time, please if you think you may have an idea of the problem do post, as I will endeavour to do the same for you.

Thanks inadvance,

Lee

Couple of quick Qs:

1. Do you add marine mix salt to the aquarium? With mollies this makes a big difference to their health.

2. What's the pH and hardness. The pH should be _at least_ 7.5, and ideally around 8.0. Hardness should be in the "very high" bracket.

She sounds to have dropsy, which is a symptom rather than a disease. Dropsy can come on for any number of underlying causes. It's very difficult to cure, and either goes away if the fish gets better, or else the fish dies for whatever reason.

Cheers,

Neale

Just wanted to let you know I hear you but don't really have any suggestions, just a hand to hold. I'm still a relatively new molly owner myself. One of my adult mollies gave birth a second time in 6 months a few weeks ago to 30 fry and died right after that. Could she be very pregnant and having trouble delivering her fry. I would make sure the temperature is warm ish-- upper 70's at least, 'cause I know that swim bladder comes from too cold water.

You will all be in my prayers. Let me know how you're all doing.

Iv had this problem with a couple of my mollies my self. I was never able to diagnose what the problem accually was  But out of the 3 that had this problem 2 passed away. Im sorry if I havnt shed much light on the situation but im relativly new at the scientific aspects of fish keeping :/ I hope the best for your molly, and if its any consolation, my mollie that survived was all black! so i have high hopes

P.S. Is she really only 4 months? Damn! you did good!
