Hi ,
I inherited a pond with my house and for two years it has been fine .
But suddenly fish started to die. Some of the fish are koi and some are goldfish and some are tench. The tench are all ok?
But all the koi are dead and goldfish are nearly all gone. Symptoms are ulcers on body and mouth, green furry fungus on sides , I treated with chemicals suggested to me by my local aquariam centre and have since emptied the pond refilled it and cleaned all plants repotted etc to no avail ! They are still dying!
Help me !!!!!!

ulcers are normaly caused by a bacterial infection. and the fungus is a secondary symtom,Check your pH and Ammonia as well as your Nitrite readings. the water conditions need to be immaculate.

ulcer Symptoms: The fish has one or more open sores on its body or at the base of its fins. The sore has a red abscess or red edges.

you could try Melafix see link below

to buy it online visit here

PS you havent mentioned filter/pump pond size etc ,you need a good flow of water to keep koi and tench

Do you think I should get rid of all the plants and fish left and start again, as I am really worried that the tench or plants will carry the disease and infect any fish I buy in the future?
If so, how do I go about getting rid of the fish? -_-
My pond is about twelve feet long by five feet wide and three feet deep in the middle .I have an external filter and pump to circulate the water etc It is a micro biological filter. I have an extra pump to power the fountain.
For the first two years I lived here, they were fine and I haven't added any new fish to it, so wonder how they became infected?
I have another slightly smaller pond in another part of my garden and that is fine although it only has golden orf in it.
Any help at all will be greatly appreciated ,as it is so sad seeing dead fish every time I go out to the pond in the morning. :byebye:
Thank you,

first thing to do is test the water ,it could be any number of reasons, bird droppings etc it could be the tench causing the problems as there known to be bottom feeders and will suck up any waste from the other fish normaly a good thing but they may have become infected

Thank you I shall buy a testing kit then . You will probably hear from me again when I get the results .

ive done a bit snooping and going on your fatality rate it could possibly be Tench rhabdovirus

pale gills, hemorrhages in the gills, skin, and eyes, and a protruding vent with a thick mucoid (white to yellowish) fecal cast.

highly unlikely but if it is theres no way to treat it apart from culling the infected stock and starting from scratch

test the water then take it from there
