Hi, I'm Nik and I kept tropical fish for 5 years now. I have a 180l tank (around 50 gallons). I really enjoy keeping fish and hope to get into breeding soon. I would love to learn more about this hobby.

Hi Nik and welcome to the forum :)

What sort of fish did you want to breed?

The following link has information on breeding fish in general, as well as culturing food for baby fish. You might find it interesting.

Hello and thank you.

Currently I have a breeding pair of gouramis. I'm having troubles with them because the male is really aggressive. I would also like to breed angelfish and plecos. I have them all in the same 180l tank.

Thanks for the link

Angelfish aren't hard to breed. Buy a group of 10 young fish and grow them up together. When they mature they will pair off and you can either move the prs into their own tanks, or leave the prs and move the other fish out.

When a pr of angelfish start breeding they lay a number of eggs on a hard flat vertical surface (side of the tank or rocks) and fan the eggs for a few days. The babies hatch and the parents look after them for about a month.

Lots of new prs of angelfish will eat the eggs the first few times. Then they let the eggs hatch but eat the babies. A few more attempts and they look after the eggs and babies. This problem is caused by breeders separating the eggs from the parents and the babies don't get any brood care, and subsequently don't learn how to become parents. Once a pr has figured out what to do and no longer eat the eggs or fry, they make good parents.

---------------------
If your tank doesn't have many floating plants in, the male will show more aggression towards other fish. However, male gouramis will all defend a territory around their nest and some species like the blue / gold gourami can get pretty obnoxious during breeding.

If the male gourami gets too aggressive, you can move him into a separate tank for a week and then put him back with the female. That can sometimes help.

sorry these for the late response here are some quick pictures of my tank;

The first picture is the "front" of the tank. The second picture is the "back" of the tank. Plus some angels.

Any thoughts or comments are welcomed

FYI-the 4 little amazon swords are runners form the mother plant (back) which I have been raising myself for about 3-4 months now.

Hello, I'm a park ranger at Jean Lafitte National Park. Currently I keep ~50 goldfish in my 80l tank. I've found that the best food to feed them is picked eggs. As for breeding, I don't know. I just let them do their own thing.

Correction. I have about 50 goldfish in my 50l tank. Are there too many in my tank? I was thinking about getting another 15l tank so I can get another 10 goldfish
