Just wanted to say Hi. Haven't been keeping fish long (except beta's), but my husband is more seasoned at it. We have a 29 gallon with sharks and 2 spiny eels and a ten gallon with tetras in it. Everyone seems real happy. I'm enjoying it a lot.

:D :D :D Please don't take offense at this -- you are certainly not alone and I am really just curious. I have seen probably dozens of posts like yours that name all these specific fish but then say tetras as if there were only one kind of tetra! :/
I guess if you were talking Danios or full size Gouramis I could understand the generalization, but lets say you have neons. I have black skirt tetras. My tetras could EAT your tetras! They are such completely different fish that I would never dream that they were related if I didn't know it already
So this is just something that has puzzled me and I'm not picking on you at all, I just want to know if there is some fishkeeper code of etiquette that says a tetra is a tetra is a tetra. I'm hoping one of the veterans will come along and explain this to me.
Anyway, big hi! :D I am pretty new here myself. I have a 28 gal bowfront work-in-progress with honey gouramis, black skirt tetras, and a cory cat, a 10 gal work-in-progress with two cherry barbs and a cory, and a little 2 gal with a Fiddler crab that I am trying to keep from dying. :-(
Look forward to hearing more about your tetras . . . :D :D

kaisja,

Welcome to the forum!!!

Glad you found us and hope we can help you out.

What type of sharks do you keep?? CM

Kaisja,
Welcome to the forum, Please make yourself at home and do not hesitate to ask away on any questions you may have. You will find we have some of the finest fish keepers here and they are always willing to help

Aword of advice though, watch out for Chiclidmaster, He will sit there and talk up Chiclids and your spouse will fall in love and before you know it you will mave MTS (Multiple Tank Syndrome).
To be totally honest (ribbing aside) CM is on the top of his game when it comes to fish, if he says it you can pretty much bank on it.

Again welcome and enjoy your time

Les

Welcome aboard.
It's nice to see some new faces in here.
I'm sure the boss will be along shortly to welcome you himself.

Ok. . . . :D I have three black tetras and three mixed fruit which I did not know were dyed. Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten them because I feel that's cruel. . . And for the sharks (like to keep them in pairs so they have one of their own) two balas, two red tailed and two rainbows.

For someone who is new to the whole forum game, it is not uncommon at all for people to generalise. I did, but now I understand what sort of format to use when posting, just takes time

You have a valid point, but lets let everyone adjust on the same learning curve, without posts like yours :D Just remember, that you stated above that you have 2 cory cats, can you be more specific, again, there are many types or cory cat, so we are all guilty of doing this

:fun: Ah, the blueberrys and such, eh? I've read two schools of thought on this. One was that they are not dyed at all, but fed a different diet and that eventually they may revert to original coloring (which is no coloring, right?) ;)
The other is that the coloring process is entirely more humane than the one for glass fish, which is where they are injected with dye, many don't survive, and it does sound very cruel. At any rate, it seems as though you are better off with the colored tetras than the glass fish, either way. :D

Thanks for being a good sport. Look forward to chatting with you again sometime, kaisaj.
