Hi Pablo & welcome to the forum :)

A 5-gallon tank is pretty small so you will only want to keep a few small fish in it. A couple of guppies, some pygmy Corydoras, or some small tetras like ember tetras. However, it is a good idea to cycle the tank before adding any fish. This is done to get the filters established before you add any fish. You don't have to cycle the tank first but you will have less problems with fish dieing if you do.
If you haven't bought the tank yet, or if you have bought it but haven't set it up, then maybe take it back to the shop and get something a bit bigger, perhaps a 10 or 20gallon tank. Generally the more water you have, the easier it is to keep the fish and the more variety you can have.

*NB* the forum is normally a lot quicker and busier than this. The site is currently having some work done on it and is running slower than normal. It should be running at full speed soon :)

welcome to the forum id keep a betta in a 5g
scot
Hello this is my first post just to try it out. Most of us know what we mean by a betta but the betta family is a huge one and can mean any of many species. But this member is quite right to suggest a "siamese fighting fish" would be ok in a 5 g tank.
