On the pic above you can really see the spikes which come out from just above the eyes. :D

HeHe! Andy Where did you pick that little fella up from.
Whats the Latin/scientific name for it.
He/she looks pretty small. What size is he/she.
Nice aquisition, was he/she expensive to buy, what does it eat. Go on tell us have you got it to extend it's spikes fully.
Lots of questions but just curious.

From the small lfs I get most of my stock from

Whats the Latin/scientific name for it.

Don't know yet. It is in the Family Diodontidae and I am leaning towards a Chilomycterus sp. making it a burrfish

He/she looks pretty small. What size is he/she.

About one inch without the caudal fin (which is mostly transparent and does not show much on the pics)

Nice aquisition, was he/she expensive to buy,

£30 so much cheaper than most of my frogfish acquisitions

what does it eat.

Pretty much anything. I have seen it take Improvi-it pellets and some frozen marine mix. I am told it will also take flake and I expect it to go for mussels and prawns and such.

Go on tell us have you got it to extend it's spikes fully.

I haven't seen it puff up yet, unlike the porky who got a bit upset the other day:

However as this one appears to be a burrfish the spikes will not come out in such a dramatic fashion as the porky, though the horny eyes more than make up for that. The above picture is as the porky was deflating, he was quite a bit more inflated than that.

Lots of questions but just curious.

Lots indeed :D

Cheers Andy,
Your LFS must get a few oddballs in from time to time eh!

You've got some great fish there, I'm dead jealous!

Looks like you got some aptasia sneeked in there as well.

Cheers

There's no sneaked at all. The whole system is overrun with it. However, I don't mind how it looks. I found it never bothered my corals and it does a purpose, even if it doesn't look as nice as mojano under actinics.

It would appear the new fish has quite the appetite. Today he fed well on a mussel nearly as large as himself. The end result is a somewhat enlarged stomach, as seen below:

However I feel it is best shown in these videos:

And we also found an old crab which I had assumed was an acropora crab from a while ago, though the hairy legs make me think possibly gorilla or teddy bear crab. Whatever, it was a walking meal with gutsy above so it has been removed to the fuge. If he climbs out of there then he will face the porky, trigger and two flat toothed eels, so I reckon it is in his interests to stay put.

Quite small and cute though:

(yes they are Nina's fingers, my nail varnish never comes out so well...)
