Hello everyone. I am new to the world of fish. My grandkids moved in with us at the beginning of the pandemic. They wanted a fish tank and their mom bought them a 20 gallon tank. Well, they ended up moving out in July and moving back to Indiana. I knew they couldn't take the tank and I had started to really like the fish, so I decided to keep it. I have really been enjoying my fish!! About a month ago I discovered a baby fish, just a single one. I was able to get into a floating breeding tank, later to transfer it to a one gallon tank until it got big enough to transfer back to my 20 gallon. So after doing research I discovered that my black Molly was the only female in the tank of 6 fish. two glow tetras, two guppies and two mollies. I just came back from a 10 day trip and discovered my black molly was nice and fat!!!! I figured out she was about due any day. I put her in my little floating breeder tank and she just delivered about 15 or so babies. I took her out of the floating tank that the babies are in and put her a different floating tank. I tried to put her back in the main tank but the male Molly was relentless in pursing her. I was afraid it would stress her so I put her back into the other floating tank. I don't know when to put her back in the main tank. I am afraid I am stressing her out. When should she go back into the main tank? (I do know that she will get pregnant again, I might let nature take its course, with other fish eating them) thanks-- accidental fish breeder!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum :fish: :hi: :fish:Mollies, guppies and platys all seem to have a lot of fry. I have 12 platy fry that have grown big enough to give away. I alos have 20-30 guppy fry in my guppy tank. They reproduce like rabbits. I wish I could get my tetras to have a few fry.

Welcome :hi: I would put her back in the main tank. Mollies need good swimming space in a tank of 90cm/36" length. She will get stressed in the breeder box. It's often recommended to have 1 male to 2/3 female mollies to spread out the male harassment.

The fry can go back in main tank after a few weeks. I've started leaving my Fry in the tank from birth. I've 12 platy fry at different sizes :fish:

Thanks I did put her back in this afternoon, I felt like she was stressed being in the breeder tank, I just hope I didn't stress her too much, she seems quiet and hanging near the bottom of the tank.

Welcome to the forum!

Out of curiosity, do you have any live plants in the tank?
