Hello everyone

I recently rescued a tank that contained two large pleco's I think they are common but not sure as one is a brown colour, but the other has basic brown with gold effect to make brown spots (a bit like a leopard?). These two were in a 3ft x 12" tank full or ornaments. They were really lifeless, thin and the water was so discusting I  when I smelt it. These two fish are aprox 14" long, both had scrape marks on their eyes and bits missing from their tails and fins, where they had rubbed against the ornaments as they had no room to turn round. One's tail has a kink in it where it looks like it was broken.

I have been nursing them back to health over the last few weeks and they are now looking great. However all the pleco foods I have tried them with they wont touch! So I am feeding them fresh veg, ham, chicken cucumber etc. but I dont know how much to give them, I am really guessing at the care these fish need, I dont think I am experienced enough to do this properly  . They are also in cold water as the heater in the tank was broken (and by the state of it had been for some time) so I have left them in cold water, should I put a heater in?

I really think I should find a suitable home for these beautiful fish but dont know where to start looking, I tried a couple of local shops but they dont have the room for them (too big for their tanks).

If anyone has any advice on keeping plecos I would appreciate it, or if anyone is looking for a couple of very large plecs I would gladly re-home them to an experienced keeper.

I am in the birmingham area

Putting a heater in would be good for them.

Can you post a pic please so we can identify your pleco?

Try some algae wafers or a whole courgette split into two as they're that big.

not sure many on the forum are interested in buying larger plecos

as for the kink in the tails ..its nothing serious some of my plecos have it also

Hi Miah, I have tried algae wafers, they wont touch them. Fussy devils lol. I am feeding them daily at the moment as they were very thin. However now they are getting better I dont want to over feed them, so not sure how often to feed them. I have tried to insert a picture but I must be doing someting wrong so I have put it under my name, sorry its not very good.

Thanks in advance if anyone can let me know exactly what they are :good:

its hard without a proper picture the one in your avatar isnt that great of a picture

due to colour and patterns im guna asume its a common pleco..... type it in on google images and compare them to the images that will give you a good idea
of weather it is or not

plecos do look very similar so be sure to pic out details

as for feeding my bn plecos didnt touch algy wafers for about a month then they just came around
