Hello everyone
I recently rescued a tank that contained two large pleco's I think they are common but not sure as one is a brown colour, but the other has basic brown with gold effect to make brown spots (a bit like a leopard?). These two were in a 3ft x 12" tank full or ornaments. They were really lifeless, thin and the water was so discusting I when I smelt it. These two fish are aprox 14" long, both had scrape marks on their eyes and bits missing from their tails and fins, where they had rubbed against the ornaments as they had no room to turn round. One's tail has a kink in it where it looks like it was broken.
I have been nursing them back to health over the last few weeks and they are now looking great. However all the pleco foods I have tried them with they wont touch! So I am feeding them fresh veg, ham, chicken cucumber etc. but I dont know how much to give them, I am really guessing at the care these fish need, I dont think I am experienced enough to do this properly . They are also in cold water as the heater in the tank was broken (and by the state of it had been for some time) so I have left them in cold water, should I put a heater in?
I really think I should find a suitable home for these beautiful fish but dont know where to start looking, I tried a couple of local shops but they dont have the room for them (too big for their tanks).
If anyone has any advice on keeping plecos I would appreciate it, or if anyone is looking for a couple of very large plecs I would gladly re-home them to an experienced keeper.
I am in the birmingham area
