Hi all,

I have been keeping freshwater fish since I was about 12. I'm a lot older than that now LOL. I dropped the hobby about 5 years ago and have just picked it back up. What I've realized is that I'm doing things the same way I did years ago, and have now discovered all kinds of new methods and tools. Exciting!

I currently have a 15 gal Fluval Flex, with some tetras and a cleanup crew. It's planted and I use a cheapy CO2 (NEO CO2) set up that seems to work pretty well.

Secretly I'm planning a 40 gal+ (would love 50 or 60) that I want to put some beautiful angel fish in. I love them. I gotta get past my wife for that, though- she's just getting used to the 15 gal. :)
Anyway, glad to be on the forum and look forward to interacting with you all!

Welcome to the forums.

Really love your tank, great 'scape and nice plant choice.

How are you finding the Neo CO2? I have played around with yeast based CO2 production a few times but keeping it consistent never seemed possible and I always ended up with algae issues from CO2 fluctuations.

That was a long time ago though and all very DIY so suspect it is probably come on quite a bit since then.

Would recommend a tank journal as I would love to hear more about it.

I came back to the hobby after a long time away and it is nice to see that some stuff that was still "experimental" like LED lighting when I left last is now pretty much the mainstream option.

Welcome to the madhouse, where something fishy is always going on somewhere and MTS is a rite of passage ;)

It does a good job of adding CO2. You can't turn it off at night, but I point the flow of water out of the filter up to get surface movement- it seems to work fine. I haven't used it long enough to see a huge difference yet (into my 2nd week with it now), but took some baseline pics and trimmed the Cabomba (sp?) so I'm hoping for some good growth.

I have algae too- I read that feeding the plants once a week with liquid food and CO2 should help them stay strong and fight the algae? I do have snails and purchased a Siamese algae eater over the weekend, so hopefully it'll get better.

My next step will be to cut the light off for an hour or 2 in the middle of the day. I only have the light that came with the Fluval Flex, so it shouldn't be that powerful.

I'm watching how much I feed the fish too, I know that can have an effect.

Thanks for your interest, though! I'll look into a journal- I guess that's something I can do on here?

LOL I gotta figure out all these "Aquarium Acronyms"
Not a complete list and a lot of acronyms are marine tank related, but it's a starting point -

This is due a serious update!
BB (Beneficial Bacteria), CAE, DGV, MTS, etc..
I'm sure members could add more. ;)

Unfortunately that thread is locked so we can't add more :(

Yes, mods can post in locked threads but Chad locked it so no-one would add extra posts. We'd have to ask his permission. I'll bring the subject up.
