Hello I wanted to say hello to everybody. I am new here and I do have a few questions if someone could help me.

I have always tried to keep aquariums, but never succeeded because of overfeeding. I have a 36 gallons tank with my fishies. I am scared to overfeed them though.

My questions were should I just drop the fish flakes in there OR crumple them up? Also is it true if the food starts to touch the ground then I have fed them to much. And should I feed them once or twice a day?

I only feed my fish every other day. A pinch of flakes slightly crunbled, or frozen food or freeze dried foods. Variety is key, and less is beter then more! add the food slowly don't allow extras to fall to the bottom unless you have bottom feeder.

Also make sure you are doing water test and water changes to keep the water clean.

I used to take my water to the LFS, but I ordered my test kit yesterday. I do 15-20% water changes once a week. I have some amano shrimp for the bottom. I am planning on getting a sucker lipped pleco in a few weeks since they don't get as big as the other plecos.

Thank you so much for the info.

:hi: to the forum!!! There's a ton of helpful people on here willing to share their knowledge :good:

How long's your tank been set up? I would feed my community fish enought that they could eat in about a minute or so. Feed twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. Sometimes it's really hard to resist feeding them extra. I keep african cichlids now and they litterally will come up to the front of the tank staring at me....like they are begging

Thank you for welcoming me. My tank is just a little over a month old now. The only thing when I feed them though is my Zebras go crazy (which I Like) but the other fish don't really have a chance to get to it. So your right I want to feed them more. This morning I did real bad, which is what made be start looking up stuff because I felt bad.

What fish do you have in their? Was your tank cycled before you put fish in? Do you remember what the last water readings for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate were?

It is cycled before I knew about the fishless cycle I accidently put zebra danios in there. All have made it though. I have 6 zebra danios, 6 neon tetras, 3 black neon tetras, and 2 rummynose tetra, and 2 amano shrimp. I don't think thats to much. in a 36 gallon tank. And java ferns and moneyworts plants. The last water readings were 0 ammonia, thats all I remember. I have ordered the Master test kit. I am supposed to get that sometime later this week. I have been lucky not to lose ANY of my fish.
