HEEEEELLLLPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!! my pimeledus pictus is very sick looking...
First, there was white spot in the tank. I went to my LFS and got some treatment (malachite green based) and asked if the pictus would be alright, and they said yes, he'd be fine. Well... his white spot was really bad so I thought I'd risk it. So I put the treatment in. I've now given three doses (over six days) and the white spot has definately cleared up, but Ben is looking REALLY pale - you can hardly see his spots except in his tail, his whiskers are all curled up and sad looking, he's developed a bit of fin rot and he's not very active.

I've changed about 15 percent of the water, and added some stress coat and some melafix. Did I do the right thing? I've never had a pictus before... the whiptail, in the same tank, is fine.

Sound like a case of over medication. Not your fault, it had to be done.

I'd do a major water change to remove as much of the meds as possible and carry on with the melafix.

Thats good advise, also have you checked the water quality? Medications can knock the bacteria in the filter media for 6 which results in ammonia and nitrite spikes, the curled whiskers and lack of colour is a common sign of this. A few BIG water changes (50% minimum) every day for the next few days should hopefully have your pictus back on the road to recovery.

He died  I came home from school and he looked almost albino, he was so pale, then later in the evening he could hardly swim, so I put him to bed in a pot, then I came down in the morning and he was dead. He's buried under the oak tree in a flower pot in the garden... my fishy cemetry. Thanks for all your help though...

Oh I am sorry.

I Hate That, I Come Home From School To Find Something Dead, It RUins My Whole Day.
