Has anybody had any experience with these guys? I was going to put a 55 gallon fish tank on my christmas list, but I think I will be happier with something I can actually playwith.

Hedgehogs? What - as a household pet you mean? Didn't know you could keep them as pets, I thought they were wild animals you find in the garden LOL. A bit prickly to cuddle, too LOL

You'd be better off with a hamster or rabbit...you can buy all sorts of fun toys for them, too.

I'm afraid hedgehogs are quite smelly, and unbelievably prone to fleas and ticks.

Aside from that, really cute. We used to keep one.

Personally I dont think hedgehogs make the best pets, whatever species. They are very smelly as they do have a meaty diet. Cat/Dog biscuits and mealworms etc (DONT give them tinned meat). They are nocturnal, they like to explore but dont appreciate much being handled...

They also cost at least £100 and need about 4ft at least worth of space...

There are LOADS of slightly more exotic pets that are far more handleable than our prickly friends. I have Persian Jirds (have 5 babies for sale too lol) and Acacia Rats that are amazing, plus lots of different species of hamsters, rats, mice and gerbils.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have had mice in the past as pets and dont want gerbils or hamsters as there just typical boring balls of fur. I found a local breeder who is really good with these critters. FYI ive done my research on them so im not blind of information. The reason why a hedgehog, is because my parents dont allow reptiles, rats (but mice were ok), birds, or any other pet besides fish. But since hedgehogs arent rodents and dont have a long tail, and are really cool i thought id give them a shot! if i can convince my parents...

Hedgehogs are fun pets. They do smell, and take a lot of space, but if you are okay with not interacting they are awsome. You should go for it :)

If a hedgehog ever curls up, cup it in both hands and bounce it up and down lightly. They'll uncurl very quickly.

I honestly had no idea that you could get hedgehogs as pets o_O
