Im getting a 240 gallon FW tank and am wondering if 3 Aquarium Pharmaceuticals RENA Cal Top Light 300Watt Heaters will do the trick or will i need 4, i did the 5 watts per gallon and it said 4, is that just to get you to buy more or is that a good idea to do?

i use a single 300watt lay down heater in my 150g and that does the trick just fine, i think you will need only 2.

It really depends on what the average year round ambient temperature is and by how many deg C more your tank water needs to be at.

I've got central heating in my home so even in winter its a nice 21C at all times, thus I've only ever needed modest heating in my tanks to keep the temps stable at 28C.

Well, i need probably 75-80 degree water, and my basement is a steady 68 in the summer and 75 in the winter. So 2 will do the trick?

hhhm, not sure about the summer temps, I'd say give it a try. Thing is you also need to think of what if one heater fails, so I'd go with three.

I also think 2 will be just fine. Remember that both probably will never be on at the same time.....I have 2 x 250W ebo-jagers in my 180....and I have only ever seen one of them on....the other is a lazy bum. :p
