I have had my tank for about two months now, which has finished cycling with two Zebra Danios. I also have plastic plants in my tank and no light yet; when I get the money, this will change. I live in a tropical area of Australia where it is quite warm most of the year, although it is heading into winter. I haven't yet bought a heater, as the water temp stays warm enough for the fish at the moment, but I am considering one. What I want to know is wether I should make the purchase or not?

Thanks,

Rob

IMO it's a good idea to have one
If it's not required to come on it won't, saving you electric.
It will only come on when and if needed
you just never know! :)

I personally don't use one, my tank has never gotten cooler than 75ºF in the winter and is usually above 80ºF in the summer. The fish i've had don't seem to mind the temperature shifts since they occur slowly with the seasons.
