What's the best heaters to use.
At the moment I have a Fluval e serious 300w heater in my tank which I have only had for 10 months and it's playing up already. It just doesn't heat up to the set temperature any more.
So I've decided to replace it but what? I was thinking about trying a Rena Smart but I have seen bad reviews about this heater as well.
Any ideas on what to buy

I have a rena, i can say no problems as of yet and really strong, i would have broke about 3 glass heaters by now if i didn't have the rena:D

ive got rena smart heaters in all of my tanks and cant fault them. very accurate, unbreakable, auto switch off, flashy lights etc etc etc. the only down side to them is that they are quite chunky but very good :good:

if you have an external filter hydor eth300w excellent heater mines hardly on and its an open top 4ft tank. Heats up the water so quickly and i didnt notice any reduction in flow. I paid about £40 for mine 1 year ago. The only tiny issue is that the heater controls can be easily changed if your hand or something grippy rubs against it but you could either tape it or just be carefull like i do.

The best thing is its completely external so no huge heater (like the rena smartheater) in the tank spoiling the view

the rena can also be used externally with the purchase of a kit that costa about £5

I previously had a fluval m series heater, that cracked into 2 separate pieces when in the tank so that got binned. I now have 2 Rena smart heaters in my tank and have had no bother with them at all, I'd highly recommend the Rena heaters :good:

It turns out that I cannot justify a special purpose built heater for any of my tanks. I use a heater for my goodeids when they have a definite need for such a heat source. Instead, I find that many, perhaps most, of my fish do just fine with generic temperature controls. They do not require any narrow temperature controls but instead thrive in any reasonable temperature regime.
