I have used my Visi-Therm Deluxe in my 2.5 gallon tanks and in one gallon sick tanks. With under two gallons you might want to set up the heater and let it run a few days first to get the temperature where you want it without boiling your fish.
I hope this helps.

I have 25 watt visatherms in both of my 2 1/2 gallon acrylic tanks and have had no trouble with either one. Temp is kept at a constant 76 degrees and they are completely submersible to. They are usually one of the more expensive brands though.

Also I think people should replace heaters once a year because they can cook your fish (even the warrenty is 1 yr). Eg my friend lost 5 discus because he didn't change his heater and it bust (It was only 1 yr 3 wks old). GOOD BRAND ;)
