If you go to Wal-Mart they have a "junior heater" that is made for tanks size 1g - 5g.

they work fine for me in my 1 gal, i need 2 for a 2.5 but then, i'm in boston, so my room temp is pretty cool. it only gets them to like 78 max

Yeah, I need it at 82. There isn't much wiggle room either. 78 is too cool and my CT blows his tail and gets finrot. Drives me nuts.

Sit it on a heating pad. You can move the tank around and adjust the temp til you get it exactly where you want it...and it stays constant...doesn't fluctuate at all. You can get a heating pad for like $8-10 at Wal-mart or a drug store. (you quite possibly already have one somewhere around your house though...most people do lol)

I can't guarantee that you will get it exactly at 82 degrees, but they're great for betta tanks. All 4 of my boys have them.
