I cannot understand why the fuse keep blowing and my poor fish are swimming in allsort of temperatures.

Would it be best to buy another heater or will a new one do exactly the same. It works after a new fuse in in but not for long.

Sounds like a short somewhere, perhaps when the element heats up.

This is common in old heaters that have been moved, so but a new one and you be fine.
Or of it's a new heater already you should get it replaced.

i agree need a new heater, if there is a problem and the fuse doesnt blow imagine the damage it could do.

Point is WHY is the fuse blowing ? Either get it replaced if new, or bin it and get a new one before that electricity "escapes" ! LOL

might be worth double checking it's not the socket the heater is plugged into.... is it on an extnesion lead? if yes does it have a surge protector? could the socket be overloaded? try plugging some other appliances into the same socket to see if there's any problems (keep a fire extinguisher handy! )

Just thinking after reading this thread - do heaters have an expected service life?
My Tronic one is approaching 5 years old!

Don't mess with electricity it kills. If you are in any doubt that it is ok, throw it out and get a new one. I would hate you to put your hand in the water and get a shock or worse.

cheers thanks at least your heater is a bit younger than me . yes we moved the tank and it is two years old but it's okay again hubby seems to get it okay but the next time. Think I'll buy one spare incase.
