I wanted to get a small 25w heater for my fry tank today so we went to petco. They only had one (other than petco brand which I didn't really want) so I bought it. It is a visitherm stealth brand (marineland). It was really expensive too-$30! So anyway I get it in the tank and it has no indicator light. I've had several different brands of heaters and they've all had a light. I don't know if I like this or not. With the others, I can see that when it gets to the correct tank temp the light goes out and if it doesn't, I can adjust it right away rather than wait until my fish are cooking. With this one I couldn't do that-I have to keep watching the thermometer every 5 minutes to make sure it doesn't get too hot. -_-

I wonder if I should order a better one online and then return this one when the new one gets here.

holy crap-I found them online and none were even close to this price. The worst part is the petco site had the same exact heater for about half the price of the store. So I ordered a different one (from petsmart-that'll show 'em) and will box up this one and take it back.

It seems like you have resolved your question! I am curious however, the original heater, it had no indicator by design, or the indicator was there but simply not working?

>>> visitherm stealth

Where do the marketting types get these names from?! :lol: Reminds me of my Oki Dokey 300 filter from this thread a couple of years ago!

No indicator and the body is solid plastic. I looked all over that thing. I have no clue where they get their names or who they are trying to impress with them. LOL. Although I do have an ex that was so enamored with military jets that the word 'stealth' on any pkg would probably get him to buy. He was a real idiot. Now an oki dokey-that name sounds like a fun filter. :lol: For some reason the name would remind me of one of those tiny spongebob tanks. :p

I have used visetherm heaters for a long time (glass) they are great heaters and work well. I have two stealth heaters (plastic) and purchase for use with large fish. Large fish break glass heaters. The stealth is unbreakable, I think thats the idea. (My 13 inch oscar smashed my glass visitherm then ate the glass as it fluttered through the water)

These heaters are acurate, they stay at the temp they are set at, unless heater is too small for tank of course. You will not find a better heater for the money. At www.petsmart.com this heater is $12.99 .

A thermometer would be more important than a little light coming on and off!

You have purchased a quality heater and very acurate. The stealth part ,I don't get though, they are visible?

You know, you're right. I got a hagen filter and in the 3 days I had it I couldn't get it to the right temp. First it went to high so I turned it down, then it was too low so I barely turned it up and then too high, and on and on. I gave up and put the stealth heater back in and the tank has stayed at a steady 80 degrees the entire time. I still don't like the price though so I might order a new one from petsmart online and return it to petco because $30 is highway robbery.

just replace your heater
Um easier said than done. It's an hour to the lfs and gas is outrageous right now (I have no paying job). I pretty much have to order online and at an extra 5-8 bucks shipping per order I'd rather not try heater after heater until I get one that works right. anyway I said the stealth heater is working fine so there's no need to replace.
