Hydor theo and rena smart heaters are both unbreakable and as long as they are 200 Watts they should be fine for a tank that size, I have however, found them to be unreliable in the past although I may have just been unlucky and got a couple of faulty ones, newatt also have a good unbreakable heater, the brand I particularly like are the Sera heaters they come with heater guards and last a long time

Sounds like a good idea, though not an issue for me coz the heater will be in the filter box thing. thanks for the advice

If you put a heater in the filter box, you need to make sure you have one designed to use that way.
If you put it in the tank itself, any submersible 200W to 250W heater should work.

ah right ok - the ones you stick onto the glass (which i will prob get, coz im upgrading the filter to an eheim 2217 next moth hopefully), do they not burn the fish?

A heater that has decent circulation of water around it never does get really hot. We do see the occasional circumstance where a fish becomes caught between the heater and the glass and gets a burn. That is precisely why heater guards are made. If you have a fish that is a size to be trapped between the heater and the glass, the guard can be worthwhile. I also have one heater that forces its own circulation and is enclosed in a plastic sleeve. It is completely guarded and still moves a lot of heat into the tank's water. I don't recall the maker but it has a small impeller that moves the water past the heating element.
