I bought my heater and expected it to come with a heater guard, unfortunately I was mistaken. Do I need to get one (I don't have any fish yet but should be getting some this weekend) and why are they so hard to come by? Any idea where to get one for a visitherm 200w?

Cheers

They are really only needed for BIG fish. I bought 1 because of my Oscar, they'll try and eat anything, but for your normal sized fish they're not really needed.

Incorrect I'm afraid. Any tank with a sucker mouth catfish or fish with a sucker mouth - no matter how small - should have one. Heater burns are nasty and many (most) sucking fish are notorious for hanging from heaters - and not feeling the heat

Just about any / all lfs should have them and they are only a few ££'s. Otherwise anywhere online.

I agree with Bloo, do buy one ,one of my Corys got himself jammed behind the heater in my tank , if there hadn't been a guard on it he would have died , as he was well stuck ,silly thing.

That's what I thought, now just to find a visi-therm one that's not going to cost more to post than it will to buy!

Doesn't have to be "visitherm" - the Tronic or Hagen ones fit just fine and are quite generic :good:
