kool, thanks guys, I'm buying most my betta gear....tanks and heaters from petsmart.com. They have just reduced the tank i'm getting to $8!!!!!!!! and the little heaters are only $10
I would pay about £20 for a heater over here!

From what I understand, a 25 watt can be too much for a 1 gal tank. I use a hydor mini heater in my one gallons and it works great. I don't risk overheating the fish, but it keeps the water nice and warm.

I would have it set to about 70F just to keep the tank in balance with the temp of the room, so i thought that would be ok?

Possibly, but that heater is set up to heat five gallons or more. The amount of heat required to warm a 5 gallon tank to that temperature will raise the temp in a one gallon higher than it would in a 5 gallon. I have a 25 watt heater on a 5 gallon tank and I still have to keep a close eye on the thermometer to make sure that when the house warms up, the heater doesn't make the water temperature spike. In a one gallon, I can imagine it would be even worse. It's up to you, but either way, be sure to purchase a thermometer for your small tank because heaters in small tanks require close monitoring to make sure they don't cause rapid changes in temperature that will hurt your fish.

Just curious, will Petsmart in the US ship over here? i had a difficult time when I wanted to get some meds, found most places only shipped within continental USA. Or maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough

I have a 50W heater in a 19 litre plastic tank.... don't know how many gallons that is. Thermometer doesn't seem to vary much. Mind you I'm a bit of a miser and don't have the heating on........

I think you are correct SB! When I went to Europe I was told I needed some adapter thing if I wanted to use my hair dryer there!! (drying my hair was the least of my worries at the time!!)

Yes petsmart ship over to us, if you email them they send you the procedure for doing an order. or I could just forward the email they sent me?

Well I don't know the shipping yet, but another site ships for $10 so maybe petsmart will be similar, pity about the heaters though
