Heater Explosion

Hello,

I was gone for the weekend and returned to find that my heater had shattered, sending glass all over my 10 US gallon aquarium. There were burn marks on the glass, as well. I had 8 peppered cories in the tank, but one died due to burns. I have another one who is severely injured, with a gash across her left side. It looks like it might have injured the gills and fin, as well. Is there anything I can do for this poor cory? She moves sometimes, but mostly lies on one side motionless. I've done a large water change and removed the heater and heater shrapnel.

Luckily, the other six seem unaffected, except for an increase in nervousness, which I can understand. It would be wonderful if I could keep seven, but it's looking grim.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi,

I haven't heard of that happening before they usually just crack rather than explode. make sure you get all the glass out of the tank even if it means putting the fish in a bucket with the filter and emptying all the gravel out. For now i'd treat with melafix as it is a natural product for healing wounds and see how things go.

was the heater quite clean or was it covered in crap?

It was quite clean, actually. I don't understand how it happened. But thanks for everyone's advice - I'll do my best to get to the pet store and get what she needs. :/

Sorry that awful, the cory laying to the side dosn't sound good bless it, yes melafix for the cuts, good luck.
