I came home tonight and noticed one of my fish wasn't looking too good so I took her out and put her in a little carrycase fishtank I have for such things. Id taken the lid off to catch her. Anyway when I went to put the heater back in it exploded. How cold a temp can Tropicals survive in because I might not be able to get a new heater till after the weekend since I'm working.

I am unsure how long the fish can survive but at the moment my heaters have not been switching on due to the temp being ok because of the warm weather. Even though it has been raining loads it is still warm and the tank temps are fine.
Hope this helps :)

Lynn

it's pretty warm in the UK right now so hopefully you'll be lucky. You could try wrapping blankets round the tank if you're worried (i know it sounds demented but it should help to insulate to some degree!), also the light should help a bit during the day....whats your room temp?

Was the heater unplugged when you put it back in? A sudden change in temperature can cause the glass part of the heater to crack.

they can survive for a long time as far as I know. Some of them like temps from 60-80 degrees, so your should be okay. Just make sure you put anm airstone in the carying case so that there is still surface aggitation.

and btw, you should NEVER keep male and female bettas together.

Don't know if this is helpful but on one of those "top tips" programmes I saw fish keepers putting a plastic bottle full of hot water into their tank to maintain the temperature during a power cut.

Also, HAVE YOU TRIED EBAY or ordering a heater on-line? I usually find a purchase is delivered next day.

Try being a bit more specific about where you are - maybe there's someone on here in your area who could lend you a heater?

I've orderd another heater and yes it was on wen i put it back in. I'm not right botherd about breeding but they did seem pretty content did my Betta's except Sulla the red female died during the night guess she must have been stressed out from the water boiling and the explosion (she was right next to it when it happend she used to sit round it guess she liked it warm). Rest in peace Sulla :byebye:

Was there a big explosion? With lots of flames all over the place, and screaming dead people all over the place? Such a huge fire ball that people ran into the streets screaming for their lives trying to evade the deadly hot flames?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? How many millions of dollars of destuction was caused? Was it a huge inferno that ate every lastbit of your city? How many miles of the infernal storm inscinerate? HUH?!?!?!?

You can heat it up with a hot water bottle.

Erm yes... It didn't cause any dollors of damage cos am from England and I live in a town not a city  but yes people ran down my avenue from the towering inferno that was my house after a heater explosion.
