Hi I just wanted to know does the colour of the green spotted puffer change when its in tropical compared to brackish? because I saw 2" gsp's in a shop kept in fresh water and they weren't colourful and they were more dull in green. Does this mean they lighten up to show they are happy when they are in brackish?

Yes, when GSPs are kept in freshwater too long, or are stressed because of some other problem, like poor water quality or aggressive tankmates, they will darken their colours. Their bellies in particular often darken from white to grey. Once returned to good conditions -- i.e., clean, at least slightly brackish water -- they should recover their normal colours.

Do note that it is normal for all GSPs to darken somewhat as they age, and Tetraodon fluviatilis and Tetraodon nigroviridis may both be sold as GSPs, despite their -- usually -- rather different colouration.

Cheers, Neale

Yeah they were just sad in there and eating a dead goldfish, the thing is that the guy has started loads of marine tanks for a few eeks now and he could make that puffer tank brackish atleast.
