I have a brackish tank with mainly Green, Red and Silver Scats. They are all different sizes. The greens are the biggest in the tank. I am having a problem with the second largest Scat. Usually when I so much as get up from my chair ALL of them rush to the front of the tank and do the "Fishy Dance". Lately I have noticed that the second largest Scat no longer does this. When I drop food in the tank he runs and hides and doesn't eat. He has also spent little time near the other fish in the tank and spends alot of time near the sponge on the inlet tube of my filter. Fearing illness I put him in a hospital tank which has coppersafe and a wide spectrum antibiotic in the water. He seems quite lively after a couple of days and appears fine but he is still not eating. Any suggestions?

Everyone stumped? I didn't mention that it has been 5 days since he atcually ate anything. For a Scat that is very bad since they will eat ANYTHING including fishypoo hench their name. I don't feed him fishypoo but I hear they eat it. (sorry but it's a fact) So there is where my concern is, the not eating. Suggestions please, I don't know how long he will last in this condition.

Nevermind, I took care of it on my own. I used Binox, while having him quarantined and he is showing many signs of improvement. It turned out he had a baterial infection. Since I pay very close attention to the behaviour in my fish I was able to catch it in time. A few more days and he can join the rest of the school. In the meantime I am treating the tank with his other tankmates with the same medication. So in case anyone else has a similar problem you can read this post instead of waiting for a reply, they must be too busy in this forum to reply to everyone or lack knowledge on Scats.

Sometimes medications cause a decrease in appetite. Try feeing some different foods and if they are not eaten scoop them out and try another. Fish can go a while without food, so maybe he just has an upset stomache. :)
