Hi everyone I'm posting this for my brother and his fish. He's got a tank with assorted juvenile african/american cichlids and they were scratching and flashing alot, also he found worms in the gravel, he's tried so many treatments, tablets and been double, even triple dosing them, and overlapping the treatments with other medication for about 3 weeks, and now the tank is bare bottomed (no gravel) but today we've noticed they are still scratching against the glass.

What is truly effective? he's looked up this 8 hr bath thing with this pink medication which looks promising, also the potassium p something, but he wasn't so keen on that because we think that burns their gills.

Help please :)

Copper based meds do very well here. Here in the states stuff called Rid-Ich (malachite green which is a copper solution). For me this stuff is the old fashion "cure all" :good: .

praziquantel is a very proven anti-wormer. It is the same anti-worm medicine the vet gives your dog or cat, and it is very safe for fish, the fatal overdose is like 50 times the recommended dosage needed to kill worms. Hikari sells a product called PraziPro that contains praziquantel and is very efective against gill and skin flukes.

Can you describe the worm how big, what colour, forked tails anything.
Also look for puncture wounds on the fish, are the gills red and inflamed.
Never add meds to you know what you are dealing with.
Also check the anus to see if it enlarged and red inflamed.

I agree only use this med in extreme circumstances.
