We are having a new carpet fitted and of course I have to move the tank. I'm not sure which is the best way to do it. I see two options; 1. Empty all the fish into a holding container for 24hrs (about 5 Galls) then empty the water and move the empty tank, or, half empty the tank keeping the fish in it and try to slide the tank/stand to another room. Then move it back again when the new carpet is down.

Presumably, other members have had the same problem. Any help would be most appreciated. It is 30 Gall tank which is going to weigh around 350lb in total full. Many thanks.

do it your first way.
try to slide a tank with water wil
1) ruin the new carpet and
2) possbly result in a broken tank.

What, you can't lift 350 lbs? Wimp.

Hahaha, just kidding. Rent a forklift.

Hahaha, just kidding. (Sorry, I'm not very funny today. I try, though).

I'd say your first option, a temporary holding tank, would be an alright idea. Probably your best. Why do you have to do it for 24 hours, though?

Sorry I couldn't be of more help,
Peter

why not just leave a couple inches of water in the tank? that should be enough for the fishes while you slide the tank back out.

5 gal tank? I'd run to walmart quickly puchase a 7.99 elcheepo 10gal (keep the stickers on and return it after if your really cheep) and use that to hold some of your fish.

I know where your comeing from because the same thing happend to me. What i did was use the barthtub :) it was only for 24hrs so no one cared, but i have large fish 8" and over, so maybe and im guessing you have small fish so why dont you use a spare sink or somthing? just put the filter and heater in, thats what i did when i had to move it.
I also drained the whole tank (55g) and moved all rock and gravel from it because the last thing you want is for it to break.

right im new ok? but i was wondering...

say if you drain the water from your tank when you put clean water back in wont you loose all the gained bacteria and when you put your fish in why dont they die? :fun:
