My real plant is yellowing badly so I'm guessing it's not getting enough light. I guess the 5w bulb that comes with the tank isn't enough. lol. So I'm going to just get fake. Any ideas what kind bettas prefer? I will look for silk for sure, but I figured I would ask in case other people's fish like a certain shape or height of plant. thanks!

some of my bettas perfer taller plants, that they can just hide behind. but i have a few who actually like to sit on the plant. petco sells these great little fabric plants, about oh 2 inches tall, bunched together little thing, perfect for a betta bed.

Some bettas are picky and some just dont care about what kind of plants. I have a really VIBRANT and im talking like bright pink, blue, purple, dark blue, and green plants. THey love to swim around them. My 10 gallon is divided into three spots for 3 of my bettas. And each space has about 2-3 plants and some larger rocks.

THough, some plants that are made from tough plastic may tear a bettas tail. Silk plants do well and also you can get plants that are really really soft plasticy material.(ALso, if you decide on plastic plants, soak them really well in HOT HOT water first, just to remove all the residue and packaging gunk from them)

Hi!
I originally had a small, short plastic plant that my betta seemed to be 'ok' with. I just recently purchased a tall silk plant thats leaves are just a little below the surface. He LOVES it. He goes up to the top to rest on the leaves and enjoys hiding behind it.

I got mine at Petco. :)

I also had live plants in with my Bettas and they weren't doing well so I switched to fake. I have plastic as well as silk..and I actually took the leaves off the silk plant and was able to stick them on the sides of the plastic dividers. My bettas love resting on them :) In one of the divided sections the silk leaf is turned upside down kinda curled..and I found my Betta curled up inside of it  It was so cute

Another good idea I figured out was you can take the base off the plastic/silk plant and stick a suction cut to the base instead (I used a rubber-band) and then you can suction cup it to the side of the glass really close to the top and then the plant lays sidways and lets the betta rest a lot easier :)

Thanks everyone. I went to the lfs and got 3, yes 3 silk plants for this 2 gal tank. What was I thinking?? I put all 3 in and thought yeah, where's he going to swim. So I took one out but I might take another out. He's not liking them much so far-they only had red ones and the real plants I had in there were green. Thanks for the ideas about putting cut off leaves on the side. I actually had to cut 2 of them because they were too tall. I might also put one of the 2 suctioned to the side like you mentioned.

Well he doesn't seem to mind the plants now and has been resting in them, but tonight I noticed about a 1/4" notch in his tailfin. Could the silk plants have done that? :( His face is a little pale in spots too so I'll keep an eye on that.
