I should tell you about my experience with my Amos with this EXACT tank. I've had him for about 4 months...
I moved him from his 2.5G tank into the 5G hex about 10 days ago. I thought he was loving it, ended up that he was really hating it. He didn't like the current at all. He was used to his safe little 2.5G. I was horrified one day when I got to work a few days after I put him into the new tank and he had eaten most of his tail off - stress. He also had a horrible case of ick from all the stress he had gone thru by being dumped into the new tank, and he was beginning to show signs of popeye.
SO... I put him back into the 2.5G tank. That was a few days ago. At this point, I'm not sure that he's going to make it through the night tonight

. He sits on my desk at work - and all day today I was able to keep an eye on him. He's completely covered in ick BADLY right now, and he lays on the bottom of the tank, sometimes completely over on his side. He's gasping for air. I'm prepared to find him dead when I get to work tomorrow, but I'm hoping by some miracle that he'll pull through the night so I can give him his next dose of Maracide. I've also got him on Tetracycline and have some salt in the tank but it didn't seem like he was improving thru the day today at all.
The outlook for Amos is not good at all. And to think - I wanted to move him into the new tank to make him happier. If only I had known. He was perfectly happy and healthy the day I moved him over.
I just wanted to forewarn you if you've had your betta in a nice safe current-less tank, think twice before you try to upgrade him. If he seems happy, he probably would rather stay put right where he's at.
good luck.
