I have a peice of driftwood in my tank (from the lfs, been boiled etc) and i want to attach java moss to it. How do i go about it. I was even thinking of stapling it to the drift wood. Would this cause problems?
Using cotton is best IMO. Its organic and breaks down, so after a couple of weeks you can easily just give it a tug and away it comes. [Edit: dont staple, you need to keep metal out of the tank (I think?)]
I have used fine fishing line in the past but next time I am going to use cotton thread. In addition to breaking down and being easy to remove, I think it would also be easier to tie.
I've heard some people have sucess with putting it in a fine mesh like a net and just tieing it to the bogwood. After a while it should start growing out of the holes in the mesh and will look natural
If it is java moss (and not a fern) you might be able to coax a stringy piece of it out and just tie it around the driftwood itself -- this is what I do with my moss. I actually use moss to tie down my java ferns, too.
