Hi my fellow fish lords, my name Is John, I'm new to the forum thing so please bare with me. I worked at a lfs in high school and kept many tanks going for years, life got in the way and I put my hobby to the side for a while. That was 22 years ago and as of November last year, I have setup a 72g community tank witch was doing great the entire time, well that all came to a halt when my power surged yesterday and most of my aquarium life support systems are fried. My 405, heater, lights and air pump all fried and now I'm in panic mode because I don't have spare equipment, I'm down on my luck lately and cannot afford a new filter, heater and aerator. So my question to anyone willing is, does anyone have an extra filter and heater that could possibly help me out? For now I just have a small sponge filter with a very underpowered aerator for basic life support but it will not last long, I need to keep my babies alive till I can afford a new filter, heater and pump. Any and all help is welcomed.

Thank you for your time,
Sincerely John

Hello and welcome to the forum! :hi:

Sorry, I don’t live near you. I hope someone can help you out. Look on eBay for Craigslist for a used filter/heater. Good luck. :)

Hi,

Thank you for the welcome. I tried looking on my local social boards but to no avail as I cannot afford anything for at least two weeks, all of my check had to go to car repair but hopefully I will be able to figure something out or this hobby is going to be put on hold again.

Do you have no money or just a little bit?

If you have at least $12-$15, you could get a Tetra heater. They are very inexpensive. How big is your tank?

Any other time would have been ok but because of my transportation breaking down, this came at the worst possible time. I have a 72g, I'm ok with heat for now because my home stays around 75f, it's the filtration I'm worried about, in the meantime I will be doing frequent water changes and hopefully they survive, but if I start to see them suffer, I will just take them to my lfs.

That is a very good idea. Do you have live plants? If so, these will help a little bit with the filtration.

Keep doing water changes and you should be ok. But if it starts to get out of hand.....take your fish to your LFS. :/

Yes, I have about two-thirds of my tank is live plants so I should be ok for a little while hopefully.
