I've got a bunch of marbled and common hatchets, including one I call Harp (Time for a sharp exit, time for a cool, sharp Harp), who's favourite pastime is leaping out of the water (as many hatchets do). He's been on the floor twice, and lost an eye by leaping into the cover guard, but he was still doing fine until this morning.
When I turned on the light before work, I had a quick check around, and he seemed fine, but when he turned around to his side that was without an eye, he had a gash on his flank, so his pectoral wing was at a level about half a centimetre lower than the undamaged side.
I've no idea what could have caused it - it looks as though one of his tankmates has had a side swipe at him, and he hasn't seen it coming (lack of peripheral vision, only having one eye). He's now swimming 'round in circles, and seems unable to 'hop' across the surface as he's accustomed to. I've no idea what would have had a go at him - the only other fish that go near the surface are my paradise fish, and they haven't noticed the hatchets up until now, although my dollars are getting rather large.
Any ideas on what to do with him?
