just tried to have a look and my pc directed me to a dodgy site! has it moved or closed down?

Looks like it finally has. There's been a lot of problems over the last year with the site owner completely losing interest in the site (from an observers view point) and a new site sprang up run by a lot of PF regulars just in case this happened. I think the domain was paid for up til about now from reading the posts about it.

Great shame though.

The domain name has expired and has now bene taken over by squatters...

Unless the owner comes back and sorts out another solution it's very unlikely any of that information will be available again...

with the site owner completely losing interest in the site

that's part of it although he does have somewhat valid reasons.

Actually i think they changed providers, IP is different now. And its back up andrunning now, for me anyway. I hear some people still having a bit of trouble logging in though.

no that's not the case.

Not to sure then, just what i heard from a few members there :) But atleast its back up and running. Shame to lose such a great informative site

Indir

It's still not back up properly and probably won't ever be..some people can access it some of the time, the rest get a squatters redirect page. Normlly PF would have over 500 users a day, currently there's only been about 60 in the 24 hours...mostly from Australia...the rest can't connect. It's unlikely the ever come back up as the owner hasn't been online in nearly a year and had been losing interest long before that.

Maybe someone should organise to attempt a back up of all the information and restart it i guess. Its a shame to lose a great forum :(

Indir

EDIT:
Looks like some members are attempting to recreate it... Link up at a website Aussies use to buy/sell fish, petlink, someone has posted a link and its got a "coming soon" sign. Maybe we will get lucky and not lose any information, but rather move it elsewhere :)

http://www.plecofanatics.net/

Link for those interested, sorry if im breaking rules.

I am trying to do exactly that but can't until the owner grants me access which is unlikely as we've tried to contact him several times but with no luck. Anyway I emailed him again yesterday so here's hoping...

Well i wish you all good luck :) Might be able to lend a hand here and there, so keep me on the "PM for help" list. :) But no guarantees, IT student at university, exams in a couple weeks :(

EDIT:
Are you the one who has the .net domain?

No, that's not me - i was the senior mod at PF. I checked yesterday and found the .net domain had been registered and whoever it was had opted to keep their details private. However I checked the source code on the website and found it's also located onthe same server as another site for YSR motorbikes, which after some tracking I found out it belongs to an Aussie member of PF. Pretty underhanded if you ask me, setting up another forum is fine but blatently stealng PF's graphics it out of line if you ask me.

What IT are you studying at uni?

Must agree there. I just figured it was PF members lol. MikeW im pretty sure is the fella who was promoting the site on petlink.

Studying Bachelor of IT, Major in Networking.

Hi
I'm the one who registered the .net domain. My sn was the same over on PF.

I've tried contacting Jeff on a few occasions myself, not trying to snipe the site, just hoping he would pass it on to a mod who was willing to keep it going. When PF expired I checked and noticed no one had registered the .net domain so I did. I've created, designed and managed other large vBulletin sites so my intensions were to start up the .net domain and invite the mods back to run things the way they always have. It was never to deceive or rip anyone off or to squat. And if by some miracle Jeff transfered or sold the domain and/or database I planned to simply point .net to the .com site.

Not sure I'll find time to stop back here often so if you have any other intentions or concerns you can reach me at the email link on .net

BTW, is this Dukerider? Oh, and I'm not Aussie

cheers for the answers. I hadn;t used it in a while and if all that info is lost that will be a huge shame as it was the best species style fish forum in my opinion with some amazinginfomation and photos of all things pleco fantastic!!!

how sad
